Queensland Corporate Games Results
Thanks for representing DD in the Queensland Corporate Games
Following on from our NSW Corporate Games debut in March, Double Drummer headed to Brisbane in May for the Queensland Corporate Games. With a small team of only 14 competitors across just three sports, we didn’t expect to repeat our amazing first up effort in the Games... but we did!

In fact our 5th place in Division 3 (out of 30+ organisations) mirrored exactly our result in Sydney… and overall we finished 21st of over 120 companies that participated to raise funds for Diabetes Australia-Queensland. Click here for all results
The DD athletes augmented the community’s NSW medal tally of 4 1st Place, 1 2nd Place and 1 3rd Place, adding another 2nd Place and a further 3rd Place medal... an excellent result, (coinciding nicely with current articles about our growing community in JetStar in-flight magazine, Vogue Australia and Good Health & Medicine magazine)
Our congratulations and sincere thanks to everyone who participated in the DD colours... from our brave Basketball team that won 3rd Place, led by the one and only Eric Bailey (playing with wife Rhonda and daughter Chanelle along with Elijah Lambert, David Howard, Dan Flint, Ray Merlano and Emily Evans) … to our lone table tennis entrant, Double Drummer’s own Anna Cosio who provided us with our best result in Brisbane by bringing home the 2nd Place medal.
Then there were our tennis players, including another famous DD Olympian, 'the last man serving' Steve Bradbury, who partnered with Dave Keogh to easily win two of their pool matches. Unfortunately, a close loss to KPMG in their remaining match saw them miss out on the knock-out stage by just one game
And special mention to Charmaine Dobson and Shaun Rigby who displayed the true DD spirit, having a go and improving with every match in the mixed doubles event, then cheering on their team mates in the basketball stadium. It was a change for Charmaine to be playing rather than administrating, given her previous roles on the organising committees for events including the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, the Fosters Australian Formula One Grand Prix, the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Volvo Ocean Race Around the World, the Barcelona Olympic Games, Queens and Wimbledon (to name a few).
With NSW and Queensland now behind us (and eight Corporate Games medals in the bag), we look forward to the Australian Corporate Games in Melbourne this November... and prior to that, the Winter Games in Thredbo in August for all our snow sport enthusiasts.
Winter and Australian Corporate Games
Thanks again for your support and for helping raise money for diabetes research and treatment programs. If you enjoyed the experience, we're doing it all again in Thredbo in August and Melbourne in November! The Winter Corporate Games is all about fun in the snow and you don’t even have to be a skier to participate! Sports include Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Snow Volleyball and Snow Tubing.
Held over the 1st weekend in August (2 & 3 Aug), entries close on Monday July 14. Families are encouraged to participate and there’ll be all the usual fun with the Games Welcome and Medal Presentations to be held at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel. Click here for full details
Then it's on to the BIG one in Melbourne, with over 10,500 athletes from more than 320 organisations competing across 20 sports over three days of exciting competition. And the cause we're helping this time is the Epilepsy Foundation of Victoria. The Australian Corporate Games is held from November 21-23 so mark those dates in your diary now. With DD ‘on tour’ again, there's bound to be some fun social activity happening every night. Click here for more information
A huge thanks again everyone. Look forward to more fun in the near future.
