2011 NSW Corporate Games Results

Congratulations and thanks for representing DD in the NSW Corporate Games

The 2011 NSW Corporate Games attracted around 7,000 participants from over 250 organisations - not a bad turnout given the number of sports was reduced from 22 to 17 types of sports.

The Double Drummer team of 50 ‘finely tuned’ athletes entered to compete across 6 different sports. Unfortunately, more than half of the DD team was literally left 'underwater' during the Games weekend. 26 Double Drummers were left disappointed when all tennis events were cancelled. We missed out on what we're sure would have been a swagful of medals, but at least we had three weekends of fun tennis at our 'secret training HQ'. Tennis, Cricket, and the Final of the Men's Touch Football were all called off due to the unrelenting rain... but at least all the other sports were successfully completed.

Special congratulations to the DD GIRLS - it was Girlpower that delivered points and medals to the 2011 DD team. Our Women's Soccer Team (Jess Baker, Rina Barrett, Lynette Carne, Ashleigh Johnson, Bianca Kringas, Jasmine Marsland, Silvia Scognamiglio, Brooke Wilson - Captain) finished a very creditable 2nd and in fact, only just missed out on winning the event after a last minute goal to the opposition! Thanks Brooke for taking over the 'organising' from Erin who couldn't play due to injury. What a great effort for a team who had never played together before and literally 'just turned up on the day'.

Our Women's Netball Team (Catherine Anderson, Nicola De Stefano, Alexandra Eather, Clair Gowenlock, Sarah Mercer, Leila Mitchell, Kayley Stephenson, Emma Widman, Lisa Widman and Jackie Francis - Team Organiser extraordinaire) outdid their excellent 2010 effort, running through their pool matches undefeated. Unfortunately, their winning streak came to an end when they played the Top Seeds - a team made up of NSW Swifts rep. players no less - who'd been brought in and paid for by a company (that shall remain nameless) to buy a 1st Place Medal. In fact, our team had the best result of any against these superstars who went on to win the Final 50 to 2! After a gruelling match against these 'Swifties', the DD Netball team finished 4th after a very long day out at Lidcombe.

Congrats. also to Rae Clayton who picked up the 3rd Place medal at the Tenpin Bowling in the 'Singles Women League' event - a great effort. Mike Hartnell also had a winning run in his pool matches but unluckily missed out on a medal.

Congratulations too to our hard-working triathetes (Jill Cavenagh, Chris McIver, Andrew Retallick) and 5K runners (Lauren Keogh and Mike Williams) who despite the foul weather, all made it to the finish line in good time (Lauren claiming a 1 second 'victory' over good friend Mike). And to our lone golfer Dave Haigh who battled the elements and the course but didn't quite play up to his handicap. Dave assures us he'll be back next year, hungry for a Medal.

The Medal Winners were:

SOCCER 6’s
Rina Barrett, Brooke Wilson (C), Jasmine Marsland, Jess Baker, Lynette Carne, Bianca Kringas, Silvia Scognamiglio, Ashleigh Johnson – Women Open – 2nd place

TENPIN BOWLING
Rae Clayton Singles Women League – 3rd place

Special mention

Although they missed out on the medals, these individuals finished in the top 8 in their events and contributed vital points to the Double Drummer team total.

NETBALL
Alexandra Eather, Sarah Mercer, Clair Gowenlock, Nicola De Stefano, Emma Widman, Lisa Widman, Kayley Stephenson, Leila Mitchell, Catherine Anderson, and Jackie Francis (C) – Women's Open – 4th place

2011 Queensland Corporate Games

Thanks again for your support and for helping raise much needed money for diabetes research and treatment programs. If you've caught that competitive bug, we're doing it all again in Brisbane in May! The Queensland Corporate Games will have a more 'Olympic' feel about it as most of the events are held at the one centre – the University of Queensland. And as DD will be 'on tour', there's bound to be some fun social activity happening every night.

This time we're raising money for Redkite – a wonderful organisation that supports children fighting cancer. There are 15 sports from which to choose in Brisbane.

So if you can take a Friday off work, join us under the DD flag once more in the sport of your choice, this time in Brisbane from May 13-15. Click here for full details

A huge thanks again everyone. Look forward to more fun in the near future.
